Today I slept until noon. Not so surprising since I was writing yesterday's blog until 2am, but still... Tonight I have left the very good black-out window shade up a bit so maybe I will get closer to living in 'real' time.
After I finally got my act together we drove north, through a tunnel under 2 islands and went to see where my grandmother lived before the family moved to Stavanger. Åmoy is also home to many petroglyphs, which they have painted red so they are easier to see. By the way, I haven't been able to figure out how to keep the photos I upload in any sort of order, or to give them captions using the Blogger iPhone app. I have a Mac here I can use, but the pictures are in my phone and getting them from here to there is more than I can handle, so you're on your own to figure out which is the petroglyph and which is my sneaker after I stepped in the mud. The next to last picture is a long shot of the site.
Next we drove south to Bru, where there is a very charming nature park with artist's installations from the year Stavanger was the Cultural Capital of Europe, 2008. We spent some time at first picking hazelnuts (Jorunn was the champion picker) and then walked on to see a grove of trees that had plaques attached with the names of local birds and where their migration path takes them when they fly south. Other installations include a giant twig nest that is slowly going back to nature, a blue tree that is wrapped with blue cords and the star cut in stone "The Landing Place for Angels". We had lunch of coffee and lefse (thanks to Jorunn for preparing and Thommas for carrying) on that rock. From our perch we could see not only sheep, but another installation, giant letters of earth spelling "NÅ" or now. On my way to the Angels Landing Place I met a young cow who was friendly even if she understood more Norwegian than I do.
The house with the grass roof is near the start of the park. One of the last things we saw was the OrdForest, a stand of very old trees and the dead trees have had words carved up one side and down the other. Very deep thoughts from the artist.
We returned home and Jorunn fixed a very tasty quiche with smoked salmon, broccoli, peppers, garlic, leeks and more. Wonderful!! We all ate too much.
Tomorrow I think we are off to museums here. Time for bed - god natt!
