Rainy museum day, part 1

Since I don't seem to be able to control the order of the pictures I upload, I'm getting a little smarter in how I blog them. My clever plan to leave the window shade partly open last night so I would wake up earlier partly worked, but I still stayed in bed like a slug for an hour after waking at 10:30. Once I was up and about we decided it was not a good day to tour the country - they'd have to tell me the views I was missing, it's so foggy - so we went to Stavanger museums. The first was the Stavanger Museum, and all these pictures are from there.

We started with an exhibit of life here in the 19th century. We were the only ones in that area at first, and when you enter the space the lights dim except for one scene, with an audio presentation to explain. Thommas got one of the staff to restart it in English, but the lights were still in the original sequence, no big deal and a little fun.

There were other exhibits about the growth of Stavanger, with its peak economic periods from herring fishing, then the canning industry, and now oil production. The wonderful carved and painted wooden furniture and tools make me think my affinity for wood is genetic. I'm super inspired to try for Artisan in wood as soon as I can master some of these small pieces.

Before leaving to drive to the nearby historic residences, Breidablikk and Ledaal, I took a quick look at the King of the Forest exhibit - moose!! This moose was shot somewhere around here, but his antlers are from a Swedish moose.

Don't ask.

  1. The top one looks just like Grandma Halversen, and the one sleeping looks just like you.
